“Three items are cost prohibitive," Mr. McCarthy said. He mentioned specifically the requirement that the building be air-conditioned. “I don't like the thought of the county spending money to air-condition someone else’s kennel,” he said. Mr. McCarthy said he would write back and ask if some of these things could be delayed until the county has its own pound.
After budget presentations by the various departments accountant Wally Cox told the supervisors their actions so far would only cut the tax rate one cent from ]gis original proposal of 77 cents. He said the cuts approved so far amount to $214,000. “The thing that doesn’t wash is the estimate of the fund balance,” Mr. Cox said.
