In other business, the council:
• requested Ms. Bruce to inform Circuit Court Judge W. Shore Robertson that the town has a vacancy on its Board of Zoning Appeals. Under state law, the judge must advertise the vacancy, interview applicants, and make an appointment.
• heard that the town should receive notification from the Community Development Block Grant program sometime this month whether its application for funding for the water project has been accepted.
• heard from Mrs. Willis that one of the benches from the Town Hall, which disappeared sometime after the Thrift Shop vacated the building, is still missing. The council requested that Mrs. Willis file an, official report of the theft with the Sheriffs Department.
• heard that negotiations with the Golden Key on a month-to-month lease are continuing. Mayor Morehouse expressed concern about work, specifically an electrical connection, done by the group. He said a dimmer switch they installed shorted out and melted, which blacked out the building and could have started a fire.
• heard three options for cutting the grass in town: a contract with one of several interested individuals; hiring someone to use town equipment, which would have to be bought; or using the jail trustees to cut the town grass, as is being done now. The council voted to continue using the trustees.
