He explained that another anticipated use for the funds would be to have an outside consultant do a study of the entire fire and rescue system. "Rappahannock County is one of the luckiest places in the Commonwealth" in terms of getting state grants, Mr. Huff explained. These grant funds will “no longer be available if we don't conduct an in depth study of the fire and rescue services in the county,” he explained.
Through May, he said the squads had already handled as many calls in 1989 as in all of 1988. “It’s getting tougher and tougher to keep delivering the service and meeting the demands,” Mr. Huff said. “For every hour spent on a call eight hours are spent to support that call in training, cleaning and repairing the equipment and fund raising.”
