ing to the gentleman on the phone," Association Vice-President Paul Poling said.

Two problems that the fire and rescue companies have when shopping for insurance arise from the facts that only two or three companies are willing to insure fire and rescue vehicles and the policies have different renewal dates, the Association officers explained.

“Realistically we’re not a big county, but our accident rate is excellent," Col. Bingham said. “But at $62,000 for insurance, I think they're getting to us.”

The supervisors decided to take the $1,200 savings for this year and see if the county’s insurance broker can find a better deal for next year.

The board then moved to the request for $15,000 for capital outlay for the fire and rescue companies. Mr. Huff explained that the squads want to change to another frequency for their radios. Both Culpeper and Orange counties use the same frequency, Mr. Huff explained. Orange County has just spent considerable money upgrading its dispatch equipment, Mr. Huff said. “Wien Orange talks, you listen,” he added.

“This is something we need to do and do fairly soon before something happens to some citizen needing emergency services,” Mr. Huff said. He explained that the cost of switching the frequency for about 600 pieces of equipment will be between $6,000 and $10,000.
