I felt I should not race out and fill it just to fill it,” she said. “I think were going to need it. The local part will be about $2,800, and for that you’ll be getting $16,000 worth of services.”

“My main thrust is prevention as the key to holding down costs,” Mrs. Bowen said. “If wre don’t have the manpower, we can’t accomplish that.”

Home Extension Agent Sandra Richardson was also at the meeting to request an additional staff position, a full-time 4-H agent. “When you have a dual load, neither program area gets full coverage,” Mrs. Richardson said. She said she had responsibility for both homemakers and 4-H clubs, with agricultural agent Thomas Williams taking some of the 4-H responsibility.

Stonewall-Hawthorn District representative Robert Anderson backed Mrs. Richardson’s request, adding, “I’ve worked with the 4-H agent in Madison. If we could get one like him, I’d be for it.”

Sheriff Woodward’s budget request came next, and he asked the supervisors not to cut back on providing 100 percent health insurance. “If you can go one more year at whatever increase they’ve put on you, we can get a reduced rate through the state the following year,” he said. “Other jurisdictions are providing other benefits we don’t. Warren County provides laundry. Fauquier supplements over and above state salaries. Prince William is starting dispatchers at $19,000;
