Reinhardt Lynch was appointed last Wednesday to fill the vacancy on Washington’s Town Council created by the resignation of Nan Thomasson.
Mr. Lynch, who is co-owner of The Inn at Little Washington, was elected by a majority vote in the first round of balloting. Four residents had expressed interest in the seat, however Charles Eldred withdrew his name from consideration before the voting began.
Mr. Lynch was supported by council members Brad Fisher, Mayor Dean Morehouse, Evelyn Willis and Ray Gooch. William Wickens placed his vote for Janice Moffett, and Peter Skowronski voted for Mark Bailey.
Mr. Lynch’s appointment created another vacancy on the town’s Planning Commission, which was already short one member following the resignation last month of William Frizzell. Arthur Neufeld and Stuart Willis were appointed to fill those seats. ,
Jail variance approved
The council also approved the county’s application for a variance for the proposed addition to the jail. It sought a variance from the zoning ordinance’s setback requirements so the addition could be built on the same line as the existing structure.
Council member Wickens said the county’s proposal is “exactly what we contemplated” when the Planning Commission recommended amendment of the town’s zoning ordinance to allow such variances to setback requirements. “We would have a very hard time telling them that they cannot
