Congressman’s aide visits
Congressman D. French Slaughter Jr. will send his district representative, Jane Clatterbuck, to Rappahannock County on Wednesday, April 11. Mrs. Clatterbuck will be at the county courthouse in Washington from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. She will be available to speak with constituents about matters under consideration by the U.S. Congress, and also with anyone who has a problem with a federal agency, such as Social Security, Immigration or Veterans' Administration. ■ Hunter safety course
The Virginia Department of Game and S Inland Fisheries will offer a hunter safety * course for early birds eager to fulfill the requirement before the fall hunting season begins. The course will be held onJkp(iLl£L 11 and 12 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., and will be taught by Game Warden Q§e Watts. Medicare surtax eliminated
Medicare recipients preparing their federal tax returns should be aware that the recent repeal of the Medicare Catastrophic Coverage Act means that the supplemental premium liability found on line 54 of the •Form 1040 is no longer in effect. With the repeal of the act, the premiums are no longer due, and taxpayers should either leave the line blank or fill in a zero. There are certain provisions in the U.S. Tax Code which benefit older Americans. They are outlined in a free booklet published by the • IRS, "Tax Information for Older Americans" (Publication .554).
