The Rappahannock-Rapidan Emergency Medical Services Council is a non-profit coordinating organization which assists emergency medical services agencies in the five counties of Planning District 9 in training, coordination, and recruitment and retention of personnel.
Although training is a major task of the RREMS council, it assists communities and citizens in a variety of ways. One important aspect of the goal of the RREMS Council and professional staff is public information ■< and education. j
As many people do not know, all 1 of the rescue squads in Rappahan- j nock, Culpeper, Madison, Fauquier t and Orange counties are staffed by t volunteers. In addition to their regu- ] lar jobs, family commitments, church and civic activities, these individuals volunteer hundreds of ! hours each year in preparing and de- * livering emergency medical care to the citizens of the region.
Being a member of a rescue saliad does not simply mean responding'to calls; in fact, the hours committecK^o training, maintenance of eauipmentT'vehjcles and buildings, "-fund raising ana'otljer administrative tasks far outwei&h^the actual time given on emergency calls.
