“It’s a special and glorious service,” Trinity’s Rev. Jennings Hobson III said, adding the shortened service is held at 6:15 a.m., just as dawn is expected to break — scheduled this year for 6:20 a.m.
Signs indicating directions to the Parson home are posted throughout Washington. The family hosts a continental breakfast after the service.
“The early morning service is an early Christian practice,” Rev. Hobson explained, influenced greatly by Jewish customs as the early Christians were of Jewish decent.
Honoring this order, the Episcopal Church Women’s Fellowship will provide a Seder Meal — a traditional Jewish passover meal — Holy Thursday — at 6:30 p.m. in the church fellowship hall, “putting us in touch with our Jewish roots,” Rev. Hobson explained, adding a Holy Thursday service follows the meal at 7:30 a.m. Trinity Episcopal Church offers a noonday prayer service on Good Friday.
Offering Easter music and an Easter monologue, Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church’s Rev. Dan Gregg invites congregation and community friends and guests to Burke Mountain in Woodville for a 6:30 a.m. service.
“Each year, I dress up as a bibical character and give a monologue as the service,” Rev. Gregg siad, adding this year he plans to feature Simon-Peter.
Music and singing are part of the service, followed by a full-breakfast in the church. In case of inclement weather, the service is held at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church.
