Sperryville Spring Festival
Sperryville will host its annual Spring Festival on Memorial Day weekend, May 26, 27 and 28. Attractions will include horse and buggy rides down old Main St., arts and craft demonstrations, the Palmetto Sharpshooters Civil War re-enactors, antiques, plenty of food, live music and entertainment for the family. Events will stretch from That Sperryville Emporium through the town up U.S. 211 past Oldway Craft Village to Country Manor. There will be plenty of parking at the Emporium, and as always there is no admission charge tp the festival events.
Volunteer recognition dinner
The county's Extension office, the Extension Homemakers and the county office of the Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Center, will Cosponsor a Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on Monday, May 14. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Meat, beverages and tableware will be provided. A representative of each volunteer organization in the county is asked to contact the Extension office (675-3619), Jeanie McNear at the CSC office (6753329) or Extension Homemakers President Marie Davis (675-3572) to make reservations for their group.
Return Census forms
Local Census Bureau enumerators have begun the time-consuming task of visiting homes which did not return their Census forms. If regional figures hold, only about two-thirds of county residents returned the forms, meaning that 2,000 people remain uncounted. That updercount could cost the county $400 in state and federal aid for each person — a total of $80,000 over the 10-year life of the Census data. People who did not receive a Census form should call, toll-free, (800) 999-1990 to request a form.
