The Yankees were dealt a blow last Saturday, however, when Mike Gilkey, their promising left-fielder, broke his arm while playing with friends. His defensive effort, like the excellent running catch he made to rob the Red Sox of a possible extrabase hit, will be missed.
Everyone affiliated with the league wishes Mike a speedy recovery. The Yankees, in particular, will miss him.
The community is invited to attend Opening Day ceremonies next Monday, May 14 at 5:45 p.m. at Stuart Field in Amissville. The guest of honor will be Mrs. L.B. Stuart, who will throw' out the first ball to start the Bambino Minor League and Babe Ruth League seasons.
