have up to nine buses lined up trying to make a U-tum at the next crossover point beyond the Pine Knot Inn, Mr. Moore agreed that that was also unsafe.
Dr. Gangel told the board he and Mr. Moore proposed to put in a new roadway. Buses will all enter at the Washington end and make an immediate right onto a new roadway that will cross the property and link up with the existing roadway coming from Sperryville. The roadway will be two lanes wide and only buses will use it. All other traffic will travel straight to the parking areas behind the school. The entrance near the Sperryville end of the property will be eliminated.
The only problem with this plan is that there is no money in the recently adopted school budget for putting in such a roadway, Dr. Gangel said. He told board members that Mr. Moore had indicated that if the highway department received a written request to put in the roadway because the safety of the school students riding the buses required it, the new roadway could be included in the four-laning project. The School Board voted to have Dr. Gangel write the letter.
The board decided to table a decision on setting tuition for students living outside Rappahannock County who attend Rappahannock schools.
He recommended that the School Board continue to consider requests for students from outside the county to attend schools in Rappahannock on a case by case basis.
