Earth Day
assembly
On Friday, April 20, the Environmental Awareness Club of Rappahannock County High School sponsored an all school assembly to honor Earth Day.
Featured speakers were Park Ranger Barbara Stewart, from Shenandoah National Park; Rappahannock County Administrator, John McCarthy; and long time county resident Waldron O’Conner.
Ranger Stewart spoke on the need for “Earth Day, Everyday” and wowed her audience with her sometimes outrageous yet practical suggestions for saving the earth, Mr. McCarthy spoke on land use and planning as it relates to Rappahannock County and Mr. O’Conner spoke of cleaning up his own little corner of the county. Questions from the students followed the speakers.
The assembly was moderated by Mrs. Howard W. Holschuh, Chairman of the R.L.E.P. Scholarship Committee and state chairman for conservation of forests and soil for the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs.
