We who live and do business in Rappahannock County, do so because of clean air, healthy water and beautiful scenery. Our state has spent huge sums of money to promote tourism.
We in this county wish to benefit from the way our tax dollars are spent, by having clean industry and businesses; i.e. farming, craft and antique shops, restaurants and B&B’s. We can attract further clean dollars by having country clubs, golf courses etc. without the addition of timeshare housing.
We need to keep our roads in good repair to attract the tourists, but refrain from allowing them to become the truck routes they seem to be destined to become. People drive to the country for beauty and peaceful surroundings, not to be trammelled upon by 18-wheelers.
We are losing our clean air, our state tree (the dogwood) and the peacefulness of our countryside. We need to consider their preservation if we wish to continue to attract that clean tourist dollar.
