Hampton District representative Mike Massie, who represents the supervisors on the Planning Commission, and then answered questions from the other supervisors.
He said he was interested in the position because he has retired, has the time, and felt he could contribute. He told the supervisors that he could support the zoning and subdivision ordinances as written.
At Monday’s Board of Supervisors’ meeting the board went into executive session before taking up the appointments to the Planning Commission. Chairman Allen Stokes’s term had also expired.
Following the executive session Piedmont representative Charles K. “Pete” Estes nominated Mr. Stokes to another term representing Piedmont District. Stonewall-Hawthom District representative Robert Anderson seconded the nomination and it passed unanimously.
Then Col. Bingham nominated George Wesselhoft to represent Jackson District and recommended a resolution to increase membership on the Planning Commission by appointing a member at large. He then nominated David Fannon for that position.
There again was no second for his motion.
“Since there was no second for that motion, it dies for lack of a second,” Mr. Gilkey said. “Are there any other motions?”
Mr. Massie said, “Everybody knows how I feel. It’s been a pleasure serving with David Fannon on the Planning Commission. I feel he has represented the people of Jackson District very well. I nominate
