'Glory' at Theater
The movie Glory will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre Saturday and Sunday, May 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. each evening. On July 18, 1863, a black regiment and its white officers earned a place in history when they risked their lives for the Union cause. Glory celebrates the bravery and dignity of the men of the Massachusetts 54th, the Civil War’s first all-black regiment. Denzel Washington is a belligerant runaway slave who volunteers to fight, and Morgan Freeman is the regiments first black officer. The movie is rated R.
Theatre clean-up May 19
The annual “Clean-Up Day” at the Gay Street Theater will be on Saturday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Everyone who can lend a hand for a few hours will be welcomed!
Call for entries
The Middle Street Gallery in Washington is looking for artwork for “Images of Rappahannock,” a juried show which will be exhibited this July. Slides of work are due on June 8. Juror for the show is Bill Christenberry and Cynthia Mahan is the curator. Entry forms are available at the Middle St. Gallery, Mountainside Market and by calling the curator at 675-3837.

CPR class to be held
A CPR class will be held on May 15, 17 and 22 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Amissville fire hall. Cost for materials is $5. For further information or to register call Shelia Scott at 937-4357.
Miss Rappahannock contest
The annual Miss Rappahannock pageant will be held Saturday, May 26 at 7 p.m. in the RCHS auditorium. There will be seven categories this year, including mother/daughter and Little Mr. Rappahannock (boys, age 2-6). Contestants must be county residents, and between the ages of 2 and 19. A reheersal will be held Friday, May 25 qt vhe high school. Entry forms are available at both the elementary and high schools, or by calling Linda Heeks (987-8343). All proceeds benefit the Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad.
