• Passed a motion unanimously authorizing board member Pete Estes to request a connector road be built by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) on the east side of Sperryville.
At VDOT’s pre-allocation hearing in Culpeper next week, Mr. Estes will ask them to build a new road to connect U.S. 211-522 with Route 231. As planning for such projects takes six years, Mr. Estes wul ask the Commonwealth Transporation Board ot consider the request this year.
• Held a public hearing on the secondary road improvement plan with VDOT Warrenton resident engineer Bob Moore and Culpeper District administrator Tom Farley.
Mr. Moore and Mr. Farley told . the board that funding for improving Rappahannock’s secondary road system will be cut dramatically as VDOT imposes austerity measures.
Rappahannock’s funding, which is $615,000 this year, may be cut 20 percent to $494,000, according to VDOT.
Mr. Moore said the cuts could go as high as 30 percent.
He updated the supervisors on several county road projects. The Route 707 bridge in Slate Mills will be advertised to contractors in May, a bid for upgrades to Route 640 will probably be accepted and work will begin in 30-40 days and a June public hearing will be held to discuss the project to replace a bridge and improve the curve on Route 729 in Flint Hill.

• Named Mark Bailey to replace Martin Woodard on the Water and Sewer Authority. J
• Passed a raffle permit for the Child Care and Learning Center.
• Continued the issue of towncounty straddle lots until May.
• Unanimously approved the special exception application by Wilma Burke for a residential care facility in Flint Hill after holding a public hearing on the matter.
• Voted to renew the Wakefield Agricultural and Forestal District for 10 more years. Mr. McCarthy noted that despite the renewal, farms that wish to join still may. Wakefield is the largest such district in Rappahannock.
