Because he hasn’t held the first auction and has just opened, Mr. Foster does not have items to sell yet. But he does have fishing and hunting equipment and silver coins.
Describing himself as an “outdoors person,” Mr. Foster is counting on the summer weather to bring in fishing business. And spring gobbler season opens April 13.
“Spring turkey season is the most challenging sport of all,” he said.
“Unless you absolutely get lucky, you’re not going to kill a spring turkey unless you’re a superb hunter.”
He “spent his retirement money” on the shop, including the $40,000 inventory in hunting and fishing gear. He is hoping to compete, pricewise, with K-mart and Wal-mart.
Mr. Foster is planning to have a game-checking station at the shop and is applying to the state government for permission to sell fishing and hunting licenses.
