She went on to discuss her difficulty in finding a suitable topic to discuss. After great deliberation, she chose to discuss happiness and how it played a major role in life.

The speech was thoughtful and expressive, with Mrs. Wayland adding her own personal experiences. She also gained a few laughs from the audience. Next, NHS officers Jan Herman, Jan Dodson, Michele Raynor, Jeremy Tole and member Susan Estes discussed the five principles: knowledge, scholarship, leadership, character and service, that members are to adhere to in the National Honor Society.

The ceremony ended with NHS sponsor Frieda Herman and president Jan Herman welcoming the new members into the organization. Also, members who had been in the Society for one year were given a membership pen.

After the ceremony, the Future Homemakers of America and sponsor Betty Wood provided a lovely reception with food and drinks.
