dragons in previous issues (they did include a dragon, however). Two issues ago the theme was “Eye On the Moon." This year the theme is “Stones and String.”

Student artwork is chosen for quality and for how well it demonstrates the theme of the year. Although very little of the artwork is specifically commissioned (the cover usually is), the staff has a knack for making it fit the stories it accompanies.

As a “feeder program" for kids in the younger grades, a staff member (Melissa Pagano this year) edits the Amulet, a less-sophisticated version of the literary magazine that Miss Pagano says “gives all of them a chance to see their names in print.”
