“The Shepherds’ Play” is one of a series of three such plays collected by Schroer. The others were “The Paradise Play,” about the fall of Adam and Eve, and “The Three Kings’ Play.” A.C. Harwood translated the plays into English in the 1940s.
In Medieval times only men were cast in roles in the plays. Ki Theater has departed from that tradition.
Performances of “The Shepherds’ Play” will be at Ki Theater on Gay Street at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday Dec. 7 and at 5 p.m. Sunday Dec. 8. There will be a nominal charge of $4 for adults and $2 for children.
Tickets may be purchased in advance from Mountainside Market or the Country Cafe in Washington, Royal Oak Bookstore in Front Royal, the New Leaf Bookstore in Warrenton and Culpeper Music in Culpeper.
Tickets will also be sold at the door.
