Melanie Frances Thornhill and Gary Leonard Kopjanski were married at 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 4, 1991 at Precious Blood Catholic Church, Culpeper.
Father Gerald Gordon, Franciscan T.O.R. Missions, Loretto, Pennsylvania, officiated at the ceremony.
The couple was given in marriage by their parents Mr. and Mrs. Cary Gordon Thornhill of Boston and Mr. Leonard Kopjanski and Ms. Irene Kopjanski of Shelton, Connecticut.
During the processional the bride and groom were escorted by their parents.
The bride wore a full-length gown of ivory alencon lace designed by Regency of New York. The gown featured a sweetheart neckline, long sleeves, and a fitted bodice accented with hand-sewn pearls and iridescent sequins. The full skirt with a scalloped lace hemline gathered into a basque waistline and flowed into a chapel length train. The hat was a Marionat creation of ivory lace accented with pearls and ivory salir and satin roses. The bride carried an unusual bouquet of burgundy dahlias, anemones, dendrobium orchids, bavardia, and physostegia designed by Teresa Mountjoy of Forget-MeNot-Florist.
The groom wore a traditional black tuxedo designed by Christian Dior.
Ms. Marianne Volpe of Washington, D.C. was the maid of honor. She wore an emerald green street length dress accented with brass buttons and a wide belt.
Elaina Thornhill of Boston, niece of the bride, was the junior bridesmaid. She wore a mauve dress of polished country chintz. The dress featured a fitted bodice, long sleeves, and a gentle diagonal ruffle across the skirt of the dress. She wore a country straw hat with matching mauve trim and carried a wicker basket of silk flowers.
The flower children were Lauren Thornhill of Boston and Brittany Thornhill of Culpeper, also nieces of the bride. The girls’ dresses of country chintz were emerald green with burgundy and mauve roses. The dresses featured a fitted bodice, long
