With the high number of people in the woods and the dry conditions which prevail across most of the county, the danger of fire is “extreme” said Mr. Bankston.
“It’s dry,” he said, warning local and visiting hunters to take all precautions against forest fires despite the modest rainfall of last week.
He advised no smoking of any sort—pipes or cigarettes—in the woods as well as no camp fires or warming fires.
Hunters are advised to wear their “blaze orange and to be extremely careful” in the woods, said Mr. Bankston.
Local weather watcher Dennis Wingfield confirms Mr. Bankston’s description of conditions with his daily calculated figures.
“November appears to be not a wet month,” Mr. Wingfield said.
His figures show rainfall this month to measure only 1.57 inches to date.
This may look pleasing to some but in comparison to last year the measurement is low.
While precipitation in November 1990 measured only 1.39 inches, the three months prior offset the low with a high.
