The Culpeper Minute Men Chapter, NSDAR, met for a luncheon meeting at Graves Mountain Lodge in Madison on Nov. 12 with Mrs. Carl Longley and Mrs. W.C. Wynham as hostesses. The Regent, Mrs. Thomas L. Eastham, welcomed members and introduced the many guests.
Special guest and speaker, Rear Admiral Eugene S. Ince Jr., was introduced by Mrs. Randolph Dixon, First Vice-Regent. Admiral Ince, speaking on “The Influence of Sea Power in the American Revolutionary War” quoted admirals, Lafayette and George Washington on the importance of sea power. Washington stated in 1777 that the decisive superiority of sea power was essential. Although most people think of land battles in connection with the Revolutionary War, Admiral Ince traced the background of the war leading up to Yorktown, in which sea power (including a battle on Lake Champlain in New York State) and the vital participation of the Frence fleet at Charleston and
