Where ownership of the stub streets is disputed, the town will hold a public hearing at a future date, said Mayor Morehouse.
The council also discussed the results of last week’s special meeting by the Architectural Review Board to examine complaints that the “renovations” of the Byrd Jones house by Inn owners Patrick O’Connell and Reinhardt Lynch really amount to a demolition of the old structure.
“That’s the third time that group has done that,” said Mr. Miller.
Town attorney Frank Reynolds pointed out that a problem with the town’s ordinance as written is that “as long as you finish it and it looks like you said it was going to look like,” then the conditions of the Certificate of Appropriateness have been met. “Nothing connects demolition with renovation,” he added.
The council was updated about what happened when the ARB decided it wanted to enter into executive session. Town Attorney Reynolds and Mr. Gooch were there and briefed them on the multi-step process involved in going into closed meetings. ,
