In the October issue of the Home Economics Newsletter, Extension Agent Helen Smith advises anyone not in a Homemakers Club but would like the handout/recipes used in the October meeting may request a copy from her by calling her at 6753619 or writing to her at P.O. Box 119, Washington, Va. 22747. The program was called “Sensible Celebrating for the Holidays.”
Mrs. Smith also shared a list of kitchen additions that could help with healthier cooking. (They would make excellent Christmas gifts.)
They include:
1. Steamer for vegetables.
2. Strainer for rinsing foods packed in oil, draining pasta.
3. Rack for cooking meat or poultry allowing fat to drain off.
4. Hot-air popcorn popper for high fiber, low-cal snack.
5. Gravy separator for degreasing sauces or soups.
6. Non-stick pans and wok for frying in less oil.
7. Pressure cooker to speed cooking of chicken, dried beans.
