This is the second year for Greg and Cindi Lockridge’s Pheasant Hill Nursery, and they are amazed at their success.
They are renting space for a roadside stand from Paul Baldwin on IJ.S. 211, across from the School Board office and bus shop, just east of the Rappahannock Fanners’ Co-op.
Last year they carried only plants they had bought from other nurseries, and this year they are continuing to resell plants, but they also have plants they have grown in a greenhouse they built on their property in Luray.
The Thursday and Saturday before Easter were very successftd days, they said.
Mrs. Lockridge said that many people were so tired of the cold wet spring, they wanted to buy anything blooming now. Mr. Lockridge said they sold out of dahlias and other blooming annuals on Saturday, and he had to go get more.
In the greenhouse they are producing herbs, annuals and some perennials. “Our goal is to offer something to everybody,” Mr. Lockridge said. “We’re so small, we won’t have a lot of any one thing, but we will have a little of everything. We try to have a big variety of color throughout the year, and we want to have low maintenance plants.”
