of Russia today are here. Ancient, mythic, religious Russia is also apparent. Robin captures the surreal atmosphere of St. Petersburg in a style reminiscent of Hieronymus Bosch and his dreamworld visions.
Her portraits often borrow from other Old Masters. “Woman Selling Seeds” and “Woman Selling Tulips” are both intensely felt, formal icons. Russian women star in this show. Some personify the deeply religious, earthy, durable peasant woman who brings rural Russia to even her city labors. Collectively they are seen in the Bathhouse pictures, quietly enjoying their comaraderie, their chance to relax with complete lack of selfconsciousness.
