The members of the Madison Choral Society are “fine-tuning” for their Spring Concert on April 18 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church at Haywood in Madison County.

There will be two full performances given, one at 3:30 p.m. and the other at 7:30 p.m. The church is on Route 609, the Hoover Raod, between Route 231 and U.S. 211.

The first portion of each performance will be three of Handel’s Coronation Anthems. George Frideric Handel, whose most celebrated coZpostition is the Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah, had earlier composed the Coronation Anthems as his first official duty as Court Composer for the King of England in 1727.

Some movements of the Coronations Anthems were incorporated by Handel into Messiah and will be recognized by many. At least one Coronation Anthem has been performed at every English coronation
