Members of the Water and Sewer Authority voted last week to withdraw another $5,000 from savings to pay current bills.
This is the second time this year it has been necessary to make such a withdrawal. In addition, $4,000 has been withdrawn to pay fines to the State Water Control Board for violation^* last summer. This will leave about $39,000 in the authority’s savings account.
At last Thursday’s meeting the authority had $1,232 in the checking account and $5,980 in unpaid bills. At the May meeting the authority members will have an on-site visit and develop a budget for the coming fiscal year.
Member Jimmy Swindler Jr. reported that he and Troy Jenkins had inspected 19 representative tanks during rainy weather and found five they thought were taking in ground water. Based on that Mr. Swindler estimated that 30 to 50 tanks in the system may have problems that are contributing to heavy flows during storms.
