Earth Day set
for April 22

April 22 is nationally and internationally recognised as Earth Day, and there are several events taking place locally and regionally that may be of some interest to Rappahannock community members.
At 2 p.m. at the Rappahannock High School Auditiorium Ivan Ussach, co-founder of the Rainforest Allance and director of both the Allance and the Sacred Earth Network, will present an hour-long talk and slide show presentaion on the Rainforests of the world.
There will be an open discussion afterwards for any wishing to talk with Ivan. This event is open to the public.
On Monday, April 19 there will be a children’s program at the Library emphasizing Earth Day. Call the Library for details.
On Saturday, April 24, there will be an Earth Day parade on Main Street in Warrenton at 12:30. Several Rappahannock groups plan to participate, including Peggy Shadier and her infamous Dancing Dragon Troupe. Following the parade there will be an Earth Day Festival at Crockett Park in Warrenton from 2 p.m. until dark. Many local artists are involved including: Paul Reisler and Martha Sandefer and Trapezoid; Peter Kater, Venus Jones, Vicki Pratt Keating, Toni White, Jeannie Drevas, Linda Ramer, Nol Putman, Kathleeen Maier, Lyn Beaver1; Howie Weingarten, Oshana Biondi and Hunt Harris.
There will be games and activites for all ages, emphasizing the fact that we all can live more harmoniously, day to day, with one another and our fellow creatures, on this beautiful, miracle planet, and the celebrations of this kind are ways to honour and delight in that fact.
