Susan Eaton, Sperryville, was fined a total of $5,000 on two charges stemming from an incident last May when she fired several rounds from a shotgun at a crop dusting airplane.
Sentencing was originally scheduled for June 17. When Eaton failed to show up for that hearing a capias (warrant) was issued for her arrest. She was arrested July 4 in Washington by Deputy Sheriff Ronald Dodson, who was off duty at the time. She remained in jail for five days until the rescheduled sentencing hearing on July 8. Eaton may face additional charges because of her failure to appear for the June 17 hearing.
The original incident occurred when Eaton fired several shotgun shells at a crop dusting airplane that was spraying Malathion on two fields near her house. About 80 holes peppered the craft from shotgun pellets. The pilot, James Hubbard, was unhurt and landed the plane safely at Cul
