The “Exceptional Waters: Honoring the Rappahannock River” exhibition at the Middle Street Gallery was organized to draw attention to a current proposal to have two sections of the Rappahannock River designated, for environmental protection purposes, Tier III. Tier III designation requires the waters of the river to be kept in ways that promote their quality and protect the natural life associated with them. This designation can be made by the State Water Control Board. A panel discussion of the issues involved wrill be held at the Theater in Washington at 7 p.m. on July 17. A decision on the matter will be taken next March. Now is the time for the public to indicate its interest and support Hence the current Gallery show, focusing on wrater.
Even as one approaches the gallery, an inspried construction by Linda Rainer drawls one’s attention. Her “Over Flow Pie” is an arrangement of sticks, stones, grasses and other w'ater-related debris that were conspicuous throughout the county after the Spring flood.
