Pointing to a survey he did last year of the Virginia Capital press corps, Rozell said he received responses from 63 percent of that number, about 60 percent considered themselves independents with mod-., erate views, while among the rest, self-described liberals outnumbered conservatives by about a 2-1 margin^
While that is scant evidence of, any animosity toward conservatives by a liberal press, said Rozell, it wasalso instructive to note that 59 percent of the journalists had voted for. Michael Dukakis for President in 1988, 74 percent had voted for Doug Wilder in 1989, 72 percent had voted for Mary Sue Terry and 83 percent had voted for Don Beyer. u
Thus it takes no brain surgeon to, figure out that an overwhelming majority of the Virginia press corps* who will be covering the 1993 canrvi paign has already expressed its personal preference in the past for two of the candidates who will be on the ballot. „
