In the May 26, 1993 issue of the News, the “Rappahannock Heritage” photo by Ms. Mahan was unmistakeabiy taken from the steel truss bridge spanning the Rappahannock River at Tapp’s Ford on SR 645. In the upper left of the photo is “the rock,” used by local residents and passers-by as a gauge to determine the water level, especially following heavy rains or storms.
Several years ago the Fauquier Democart published an article on the history of this bridge. Apparently it
