By BILL WALSH i Rappahannock Newt Staff Writer , WARRENTON — According to political analysts covering the Republican convention in Richmond, GOP Attorney General nominee James Gilmore has a better chance of winning his race than either lieutenant governor candidate Mike Farris or gubernatorial standard bearer George Allen. . “Whatever happens in the general election, the Republicans potentially have the best shot to win the Attorney General’s contest,” University of Virginia polical maven Dr. Larry Sabato said as the GOP convention ended.
“This is because the Democratic nominee, Bill Dolan, is relatively unknown. He is not an incumbent, he is not known even in his home region in Northern Virginia. The [Republican candidate] is also unknown, but ... has been in public office,” Sabato noted.
Dolan concedes his lack of name recognition, but made light of it at a fundraiser at Airlie recently.
After touting the credentials of Mary Sue Terry and Don Beyer, Dolan noted that “it really is true that they could put a rock in the third spot and see whether or not they could drag it across.
