The Virginia transportation department is moving forward on an environmental study of three routes being considered for a western bypass around Washington, D.C.
The agency plans to seek contractor proposals, as early as the end of July, for completion of the initial study, which will pinpoint potential problem areas, such as wetlands, and historic sites, along the tarageted routes, said Howard F. Hancock Jr., the transportation department’s project manager for the study.
