“We have tried to keep administration down and put all the money into direct services to children, but safety is a direct service too. We have very little choice,” she said.
Stonewall-Hawthorn District representative John Tole reluctantly agreed, but he said preventing liability was not the way to sell the additional position. He said that the school system usually treats maintenance problems after something breaks. He suggested that having someone in charge of preventive maintenance might ultimately save money.
At Tuesday’s meeting the School Board also heard from a group of parents and citizens interested in having a school tennis team. The board agreed with the superintendent’s recommendation that the high school athletic director look into what costs would be involved and report back.
