The Junior Varsity boys’ basketball team won a 40 to 39 thriller over Central Tuesday night, but the varsity lost a close one, 55 to 57.
“The JV game was a tale of two teams,” Coach Gary Leake said. “The first half the team was passive and non-agressive. The second half they gave a 110 percent effort, and they were extremely agressive. They corrected everything I mentioned at half time.”
He had particular praise for John Butler who scored 17 points in the second half. He was also pleased with the play or Eric Smith who got two big three-point plays to contribute to the rally. “We scored 19 points in the third quarter and only 11 in the first half,” he noted. “This JV team is a great team just waiting to happen.”
He was a lot less happy about the varsity game. The team particularly struggled in the first quarter scoring only 7 points. “The start was frustrating,” he said. “We missed easy shots. Central out-hustled us with every loose ball and every rebound.”
He did have praise for Jason Brown. “He played an qutstanding game with 14 points including three 3-pointers. “If we can develop the other players to play with the intensity he has, we can turn this thing around,” he said.
The RCHS volleyball teams fell to Brentsville and Strasburg this week. “Our girls were really on for the first game against Brentsville. I would have put them up against anyone. This year’s Brentsville team is the best I have, ever seen,” said Coach Paul Paratore.
The varsity played Brentsville last Wednesday, and was victorious in the first game, 15-4. However,
