Brentsville defeated both Rappahannock teams last Friday. The junior varsity lost 35-53, and the varsity 61-86.
Even though Rappahannock lost, “It was good to see them play that well against such a good team,” said Coach Leake. In the varsity game, Leake said, “I felt like we were in the game the first half. We struggled on offense.1 We were not in the right place at the right time. Players were out of alignment, and we had 21 turnovers for the game.
“Jason Settle gave an excellent performance. He scored 30 points and had 15 rebounds,” said Coach Leake. “Jonathan Fletcher also played really well. He scored 10 points and had 9 rebounds,” he added.
Unfortunately, J.C. Welch reinjured his ankle in the third quarter. “We were down ten at the half, and within scoring distance,” said Coach Leake.
“Our junior varsity team was extremely nervous. Their junior varsity team had the advantage of playing at home. Our team played without team discipline and with a lot of nervousness,” said Leake. The high scorer was Willie Eastham with seven points. Jeff Atkins, Lee Freeman, and Chris McLear each scored six points.
Leake said, “I am really optimistic with our start. I saw a lot of good things happening on the court. It is just a matter of making some adjustments.
“The junior varsity needs more practice. The varsity needs more discipline and needs to decrease the amount of turnovers,” said Coach Leake.
