The junior varsity lost their games against Brentsville, 13-15 and 6-15. Coach Emily Wingate said, “We should have had that game. We were up by a lot, but lost that first game. We hope to beat Brentsville when they play us here.”
“They held their own and did a good job. Their best asset is that they are very positive,” Mr. Paratore said of the J V team.
In the Strasburg game, which the varsity lost 8-15 and 5-15, Coach Paratore said, “We had a mental lapse for the second game. I saw a lot of things that we can correct. Everyone is positive and wants to work harder.”
“Shannon Walter and Amy Hathaway played especially well in the games against Strasburg,” said Coach Paratore. “Shannon is a hitter and Amy is a receiver,” he added.
“During the Strasburg game, the junior varsity played in spurts. Some plays were brilliant,” said Ms. Wingate. “Strasburg really worked hard for their points,” she added. Strasburg outscored Rappahannock 15-3 and 15-5.
Ms. Wingate said “Kylene Wolfe, Nancy Gallegos, and Sherry Lillard played especially well against Strasburg. The team did a lot of good things. We need to work on being consistent, but the girls are serving a lot better.”
Of earlier basketball losses Coach Leake said, Brentsville is picked to win the district in junior varsity and varsity basketball. He said, “They have improved their athletic programs in every sport over the last few years. They picked up 130 transfer students this year. Three of their basketball players are
