Bluemont’s series of popular oldtime country dances continue this Saturday, Dec. 18 with the annual Midwinter Ball at the old schoolhouse Bluemont Community Center in Bluemont. The Ball features lively oldtime dance music by the Carolina Stompers from Ashville, N.C., spirited figure calling by Ron Buchanan. Admission is $5 per person and $3 for Bluemont friends. All are welcome.
Once again, it appears that we have been unable to discourage the presentation of certain traditional irreverencies of the season; thus the return of the seemingly unavoidable Bluemont Sword Dancers. This should be somewhat mitigated by the first appearance of the a capella vocal group “Drive The Cold Winter Away” singing wonderful Oxford« carols and other seasonal music. As an added treat, there will be a performance by the Rappahannock Colonial Dancers. The Bluemont hall will be seasonally decorated for the Midwinter Ball.
Sponsored by the Bluemont Concert Series, the dance begins at 8 p.m. with a beginner’s workshop at 7:30 p.m. Instruction and calling are provided throughout the dance; single dancers are welcome. Everyone is encouraged to bring potluck refreshments to share at intermission.
