State Sen. Kevin Miller and newly elected delegate Jay Katzen joined the supervisors and representatives of the extension service lastweek at lunchtime for a presentation on the programs of the extension service.
Mike Massie said that the pesticide cleanup sponsored by the extension service last summer had been very helpful to farmers who have conscientiously kept chemicals that are now illegai to apply. He said that in several cases the cleanup may make it possible to sell farms more easily.
Alex Sharp told how helpful the orchard meetings are to local apple growers. Meetings are as often as every two weeks during the growing season, he said.
Extension Agent Scott Cunningham said that beef farmers are benefitting from meetings and mailings. He said that some are switching from growing corn to intensive pasture rotation. This can save money and cut fertilizer use, benefiting the
