Topping the lfct of the ten most important stories for 1993 was the decision to put a $1.5 million addition on the Rappahannock County Elementary School.
This began as a discussion of building a middle school. In February the School Board asked the Board of Supervisors for authorization to move ahead with a middle school project. The supervisors turned this proposal down.
Next the School Board asked to proceed with plans for an addition to the elementary school. The supervisors did not take any direct action on that proposal at the time. However, when they approved the school budget, it included funds to hire an architect and to pay the first six months interest on bonds for the building.
VMDO Architects from Charlottesville were hired to plan the addition. After examining the total school property, they concluded the most suitable space for the addition would be to the south, but the school property did not extend far enough in that direction to accommodate an addition.
