The Carlyle House Historic Park, the only colonial manor house open to the public in Alexandria, was built by the Scottish merchant John Carlyle, one of the founders of the city of Alexandria.
The mansion gained a place in history in 1755 when the historic Braddock Council meeting was held there to plan the financial strategy of the French and Indian War.
The house is on the National Register of Historic Places and was restored to its 18th-century appearance and opened to the public by the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority in 1976.
