Are you looking for a New Year’s gift for a family member or friend who’s on a special diet? If you’re like me, the gift catalogs have been rolling in and lots of them contain delicious-looking gourmet food items. But most of us have at least one person in our family on a special diet (i.e. diabetic, high blood pressure, low-fat or low-cholesterol, vegetarian). Or, perhaps it’s just someone who want to eat healthier and/or shred a few pounds for their New Year’s resolution.
Here are a few suggestions:
Heart Disease
The American Heart Association publishes three books: The Amiercan Heart Association Cookbook, The American Heart Association Low-Fat, Low-Cholesterol Cookbook, and The American Heart Association Kid’s Cookbook. <
Cancer
The American Cancer Society’s cookbook, A Menu for Good Health, contains over 200 recipes reflecting the newest research on the simple nutritional guidelines that can reduce your risk of developing cancer. It covers the American Cancer Society’s guidelines which include: avoid obesity, cut down of total fat intake, eat more high-fiber foods and cruciferous vegetables, and be moderate in consumption of alcohol. It includes a chapter on meatless entrees, menu planning, and cooking methods. This book is $17.95 and available from the local Cancer Society by calling 937-4170.
