The American Diabetes Association publishes The American Diabetic Association Family Cookbook which explains about food and diabetes, menu planning and using the exchange lists, exercise, and the overweight-diabetes connection. It includes chapters on dining out, fast foods, canning and freezing fruits, alcohol and diabetes, and recipes using artificial sweeteners.
General Nutrition
Jane Brody, who is the nutrition columnist of The New York Times has published three books: Jane Brody’s Nutrition Book, Jane Brody’s Good Food Book, and Jane Brody's Good Food Gourment. She covers the basics of nutrition in a way that is easy to read and understand plus includes many tested and revised recipes.
Some of these books are available locally from the organizations named above, plus our local bookstore is very good about placing special orders if they don’t have what you want in stock.
If you’d like to take the most economical route, all of these books (except the American Heart Association children’s book) are available in our local Rappahannock County Library.
