All this research could have real benefits for Virginia farmers as well, according to William Ravlin, associate professor of entomology and coordinator of Tech’s bid for the I PM program.
“One of the objects of this program is to also deliver technology back to the United States and Virginia farmers,” Ravlin said.
, “Many of the technologies and approaches we develop are without a doubt going to come back to Virginia farmers.”
Ravlin said this will be similar to “farmer-swap” programs already underway, where American farmers visit other countries to share their expertise and bring back tips for their own operations.
Researchers in other countries will work directly with farmers, Ravlin said, giving the farmers more incentive to adopt the new techniques.
