New Waterlines for Washington
After many years of talk and ne-' gotiating to get financing in place,;' the Town of Washington, has begun work on overhauling the town’s old water lines. Rappawan is laying new lines throughout the town. It will be several more months before water, begins flowing in the new lines. • ;■
The work is being financed by a; combination of grants and borrow-’ ing. The debt is scheduled to be repaid by water system customers*, without requiring a large increase m;v rates.

After two years of the real estate; tax rate remaining essentially the; same, the Board of Supervisors increased the tax rate by 12 cents or 24 percent for the current fiscal; year. A large part of the increase; was for the school budget. Trash dis-; posal also added to the budget.
Disney Theme Park 1
In November the entire Pied-, mont area was rocked by news that; the Walt Disney Company planned to open Disney America, a theme park centered around American his-; tory in western Prince William County near Haymarket.
Both outgoing Gov. L. Douglas Wilder and incoming governor George Allen supported the Disney project, but opposition was quickly organized led by the Piedmont Environmental Council, the Goose Creek; Association and the Save the Battlefield Coalition.
