Cable TV

1993 brought Cable TV to many homes in Rappahannock. Adelphia Cablevision received a francise to supply cable TV to the populated areas of the county in 1991. By mid November they were able to begin hooking up customers in Flint Hill and Washington. Chester Gap customers had already been hooked up, some before the francise was approved. Customers in Sperryville and Amissville had to wait until this month to sign

Richard Burke said last week that about 500 customers had signed up and most have already been hooked up. Now the company is trying to provide service to those who did not request the service at their first opportunity and those who must pay extra because they are beyond the normal service area.

U.S.211 Four-laned

The first section of the four-lane project on U.S. 522-211 opened in late May. It cost approximately $2.2 miilion. The second section costing about $3.3 million was due to open by the end of October.

VDOT resident engineer Robert Moore said he hopes that this section can be opened as soon as possible to separate eastbound from westbound traffic. However, more asphalt work is needed and warmer weather is needed to lay asphalt.

Mr. Moore said because of bad weather during the contract time, the company responsible is not yet liable for fines for not completing the work on time, but time is running out on them.

REC Powerline

In July the Rappahannock Electric Co-opertive announced it had an agreement with Potomac Edison to supply power for their Rixeyville substation from the Potomac Edison substation.in Sperryville. REC proposed to put in a new' 100-foot wide corridor carrying 135 killowatts of power. The route of the proposed powerline was from Sperryville through the five forks area, near Red Oak and Bessie Bell mountains.
